2/3/2009 - First Priority Odessa, TX Hello First Priority Supporters! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to get an email out, but here’s the skinny: It’s a new year and I’ve begun a new job as the Executive Director of Unlock Ministries of Midland — a ministry passionate about equipping High School students to be difference makers in their world. I’ll be glad to talk to you about this ministry if you’re interested, but the main point of this email is to let you know about what’s going on with First Priority! Here are the highlights: (Places! People! Plans! Prayers!) PLACES: First Priority has officially begun on OHS & Permian HS campuses! **OHS meets on Tuesdays at 8am in room 224 — Mrs. Cowen’s room. Thanks Mrs. Cowen—you are awesome! **Permian meets in the “Football team room” on Thursday’s at 7:45am. Coach Allman has gladly opened up the large room to us! Thanks Darren! PEOPLE: Jerrod Faircloth from Sherwood Baptist Church has stepped up and led the charge at OHS. He’s looking for interested Youth Pastor’s to help run the meetings as well as parents of OHS students interested in helping at future events. Please contact Jerrod at (432-202-4181 or jerrodf@grandecom.net) to help! Luc Ashley from Odessa Bible is also helping out—thanks Luc! Ben Wall (New Life), Aaron Coleman (Crescent Park Baptist--770-4318) and Ben Chapman (Mid-Cities--349-0393) are putting their lives together at Permian, but Garrett Porter is the real story here. The HS Senior has been a force and we’re just humbled watching God work through him! If you’re available to join us at meetings, please just show up—we’ll put you to work! PLANS: Block Party: The Permian FP Club has committed to hosting a schoolwide “Block Party” on Wednesday, February 25. The plan is to distribute 3,000 pieces of candy wrapped with invitations to the Block Party and the FP meeting. At the lunch on Wednesday, they hope 1,200-2,000 students show up to be fed and get invited to the club’s Thursday morning meeting. The meeting on Feb 26 will be the first official “Tell” meeting—where a student shares their testimony and invites students to come follow Jesus! If you want to help us serve at this event, teams are forming now to tackle that project!! It should be a big ol’ blast! I know the OHS team has come up with a number of ideas, but their biggest question is: “How can we pay for these ideas?” So if you’ve been waiting to help out financially, we now have an official board that can receive tax deductible donations (see Brent Beakley: (432) 638-8387, bbeakley@lonestarwtx.com). Brent is also helping to coordinate the Block Party so if you can help, you can also talk to him. PRAYERS! I’ve heard it said that you won’t talk to God about your friends until you talk to God about your friends. So pray for the names of the people in this email today! Pray especially for students are stepping up to be Jesus on campus today! Don’t pout and feel unimportant—join us in the work! Pray! Serve! Give! Every little part matters! God bless you!
